Maribyrnong council is seeking public input on the best methods to encourage increased community engagement with decision making, as part of the implementation of its Community Engagement Policy.
Adopted in February 2021, the policy details a number of principles and commitments to allow for more open, transparent, meaningful and accountable engagement.
Maribyrnong mayor Sarah Carter said the council is also keen to identify better ways to engage with diverse groups.
“We don’t just want to spread information and tell our community what we’re doing,” she said.
“We want to enter into a dialogue with residents so they can influence the development of projects and initiatives to better meet their wants and needs.
“While we’re moving more and more in this direction, if we are to engage effectively with our community on decisions that affect them, we need to know how they want to converse with us to support the information sharing critical to accomplishing common goals.”
Public consultation closes at 5pm on Sunday, December 11.
