The new Footscray Hospital would host a new women’s health clinic if Labor win the state election on November 26.
Premier Daniel Andrews has pledged to open 20 women’s health clinics across the state to support women experiencing a number conditions from dysmenorrhoea (period pain) to the symptoms of menopause.
“For too long, too many women haven’t been listened to and their health issues have been ignored,” he said.
“Some of the most common conditions experienced by women go undiagnosed and untreated – tragically, sometimes until it’s too late.
“This is about making sure women have the care and peace of mind they need.”
As part of the announcement, Labor has committed to funding the state’s first statewide sexual and reproductive advice phone line, complementing previous announcements that Labor would make period products free in public places and expand consultations with maternal and child health nurses as part of a $71 million package for women’s health, which will also include the creation of dedicated Aboriginal-led women’s health clinics.
Women’s health clinics would also be opened at Sunshine Hospital and Werribee Mercy Hospital under Labor.
