Big V

The Altona Gators women’s side will play in the Big V division 1 competition next season. The Gators, who finished runners-up this year in division 2, have been promoted due to a vacancy in division. A Basketball Victoria spokesperson said the Gators were promoted as they were the best placed team after sustained success the last two years. The Gators had try outs last week as they look to strengthen their squad.

Bowls

Yarraville Footscray made it two in a row in the Bowls Victorian weekend pennant premier division on Friday night. Facing Fitzroy Victoria, Yarraville Footscray claimed the win, 83 (14)-78 (4). For Yarraville Footscray, Nelson Ball’s rink won 21-15 and Brett Mahoney’s rink won 24-18. Altona suffered a 75 (14)-71 (4) loss to Richmond Union. Nathan Wilson and Nick Cahill were the winning skips for Altona. Altona sits fifth on the ladder and Yarraville Footscray sits in ninth spot.

WRFL

Laverton has announced two key signings for next year’s Western Region Football League division 3 season. Antony Pasqua, a ruck-forward, joins the club having previously played at Moonee Valley and Keilor Park, while former Sandringham Dragon Ayang Nyanjok joins the club having played in the AFLQ competition this year.

Baseball

Williamstown was firing on all cylinders on Sunday against Preston in the Baseball Victoria summer league division 2. After losing their first game midweek to Port Melbourne 3-0, the Wolves bounced back with a 26-2 win against Preston on Sunday. The Newport Rams suffered an 8-6 loss to Ormond Glenhuntly on Sunday, after beating Fitzroy 7-2 in the mid week game. The results mean Williamstown is on top of the ladder after eight rounds, while Newport sits in third spot. The two teams are next in action this weekend.
