Hobsons Bay’s homeowners with a green thumb are encouraged to visit two open garden events as part of My Smart Garden’s Edible Garden Open Days event.
Seaholme resident Peter will be opening up his small garden on Sunday, November 27 from 2.30pm to 3.30pm.
His garden features vegetables, hydroponics, a citrus orchard and a productive nature strip.
As part of the event, Peter will show visitors how he uses seaweed in his garden and compost.
Altona resident Adeline will also be showing off her vegie patch, orchard and converted nature strips, as well as her quails, chickens and guinea pigs from 4pm to 5pm on Sunday, November 27.
The Altona Community Gardens member is a keen composter and will be sharing a number of tips on keeping small animals in food gardens.
Hobsons Bay council My Smart Garden project officer Kat Lavers said the events aim to educate keen gardeners on how to operate small gardens at their homes.
“People love getting out into the suburbs,” she said.
“They’ll be given a tour and be able to look around and ask questions.”
Visitors are encouraged to bring bring any surplus produce, seeds, cuttings, plants or gardening magazines to swap and share during the event.
