By Cr Sarah Carter
I am honoured to have been elected as the mayor by my fellow councillors to represent our community for the coming year.
Furthermore, I am delighted to share that Cr Cuc Lam, Stony Creek ward councillor, has been elected as deputy mayor.
I plan to continue to serve my community as I have for more than 15 years – and commit to doing all I can to make our city even better than it is.
I have given considerable thought to what I hope to achieve in the coming year and with the support of my fellow councillors, I will look to focus on initiatives that prioritise our wellbeing and provide high-quality amenity and community infrastructure.
Getting the basics right and to the highest standards.
I can not tell you how much I missed engaging with our community when I was mayor during the onset of the pandemic, and how grateful I am to now to have the opportunity again, to be mayor and able to get out into our community.
A few months into my last tenure as mayor in 2020, our lives were all turned upside down with the arrival of COVID-19.
It was the start of what would be an incredibly tough couple of years.
The pandemic has, however, I believe taught us a lot about the value of community and the value of connection, including the important role our open spaces play in ensuring community wellbeing.
Ensuring we continue to explore opportunities to maximise their value to our community is also on my radar.
Along with the opportunity to meet with residents, traders and community groups over the coming months, I also look forward to celebrating our many unsung heroes who have made a significant contribution to the community at our next Civic Awards event.
Nominations are now open.
