Yarraville Club made it two in row in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association senior division on Saturday against St Albans. The Clubbers made 8-186 with Trent Lawford top scoring with 48. They then restricted the Saints to 8-149 from their 50 overs, sharing the wickets around. The Druids got their first win of the season, beating Deer Park. The Druids made 7-183 before bowling Deer Park out for 77.
VTCA
Women’s cricketers in the Victorian Turf and North West Metropolitan cricket associations were left on the sidelines. Both competitions were meant to be in action on Sunday, but heavy rain overnight meant grounds were left waterlogged and there was no choice but to call off matches. Some sides, including Williamstown CYMS and Altona Roosters are yet to play at all this VTCA season, while two rounds of the NWMCA have been played.
AFLW Academy
Western Jets duo Kiera Whiley and Kristie-Lee Weston-Turner have been named in the AFLW Academy for next year. The AFL and AFLW academy squads each feature 30 players and include a selection of the most talented 17-year-old footballers across the country. The players selected will be eligible in the 2023 drafts. Players will participate in high performance and personal development programs throughout the 2023 season. Whiley, comes from Caroline Springs and Weston-Turner, won the Western Region Football League under-18 best and fairest, playing with Spotswood.
Baseball
Newport Rams suffered a close loss in the Baseball Victoria summer league division 2 on Saturday. The Rams, who were sitting on top of the table entering the round, lost to Port Melbourne, 1-0. Williamstown Wolves match with Fitzroy ended in a 0-0 draw after the wet weather meant the game couldn’t go ahead.
