Learning among the gumtrees

Dinjerra Primary School would soon have a new outdoor learning space, thanks to a $50,000 federal government grant.

Fraser MP Daniel Mulino visited the Braybrook school on Friday, December 16 to announce the Schools Upgrade Fund investment towards a new outdoor learning space, which will complement the school’s garden.

“It means better equipment and better facilities to help the students learn and play in a top-class environment,” he said.

“Everyone has had a really tough few years, and this funding will go some way to help the students bounce back.”

Dinjerra Primary School principal Natalie Vulic said the new space, which would include decking around the gumtree and comfortable seating, would be delivered during the first half of next year.

“It’s going to be for the children to do their writing and get the inspiration from being outdoors,” she said.

Ms Vulic said the government had also contributed $10,000 as part of the Planting Trees for The Queen’s Jubilee Program, with works underway to create a new native garden.

The $32 million Open Round of the Schools Upgrade Fund program has opened, with up to $25,000 available for small-scale projects creating healthier learning environments and helping students return to regular learning patterns and behaviours following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Eligible projects include new laptops, iPads and air purifiers, classroom upgrades, new outdoor learning spaces and urgent repairs.

Mr Mulino said he was encouraging all local schools to apply for the funding program.

“I want our local schools to get their fair share,” he said.

Applications close at midnight on Friday, February 24, 2023, with successful schools to be notified in May 2023 and funding to be provided in June 2023.
