West Gate Freeway road users are advised to allow for additional travel time due to major works continuing as part of the West Gate Tunnel Project [WGTP].
From 9pm on Wednesday, January 11 to 5am on Monday, February 27, the Williamstown Road outbound entry ramp will be closed and one lane on the West Gate Freeway outbound will also be closed at the Williamstown Road interchange as part of works to widen the West Gate Freeway from eight to 12 through lanes to deliver more reliable journeys for motorists.
Drivers who regularly use the Williamstown Road interchange to travel westbound on the West Gate Freeway will need to access the freeway via an alternative route, such as Millers Road or Geelong Road.
The speed limit will also be reduced to 60km/h as you travel westbound from the West Gate Bridge for the safety of all road users and the WGTP crew.
Drivers could experience delays of up to 18 minutes during the afternoon peak while these works take place.
Footscray Road will have a full citybound carriageway and a single lane westbound closure 24/7 from 8pm on Wednesday, January 11 to early April between Dock Link Road and Appleton Dock Road.
A massive crane known as a launching gantry is building an elevated road which will link the tunnels with Citylink and the CBD.
The next phase involves construction of sections crossing over the citybound and outbound carriageways of the existing road beneath, including closures of Footscray Road in one direction at a time until June.
nearly 400 pieces of concrete, weighing up to 100 tonnes each, to be lifted over Footscray Road to create the new road deck.
WGTP acting chief executive Peter Lellyett said the works are planned to help make journeys safer and smoother towards cutting overall congestion on Melbourne’s road network.
