Clubbers inspired

Yarraville Club unfurled its Victorian Turf Cricket Association senior division premiership flag before its round-two clash with Hampton at Hansen Reserve on Saturday. The positive energy of that unforgettable moment continued on the pitch with the Clubbers smashing 9-288 off 80 overs. Andrew Cullen fell agonisingly short of a century, running out of deliveries on 99 not out. The Clubbers will be confident of defending the total and registering their first win of the summer.

North division

In north division, Altona North could muster only 126 against West Coburg, which was 0-28 at stumps. Patrick McArdle was the leading runscorer for North with 34. Spotswood has
an interesting run chase on its hands after being set 234 for victory by
Keilor Park. Laverton hit 252 against Royal Park-Brunswick, with four
players making 30s and three reaching 20s in a remarkable spread of the workload.

Derby duel

In west A1, Footscray United holds all the aces against Point Cook after setting a massive 7-280 on the back of 102 from Rasika Fernando Mandadigie and 89 to Steven McKay. Two games were hard to split after day one – the Altona Roosters’ (132) clash with Werribee Centrals (4-58), and Williamstown CYMS’ (196) derby with Newport-Digman (3-46).

Barkly Street victory

In west B1, Barkly Street Uniting claimed a 17-run win over Seabrook, with Dale Williams taking five wickets and Hayden Davidson hitting 53.
West Newport easily accounted for Sunshine YCW by 82 runs, with Peter Hick taking four wickets and Corey Irving hitting 52.

WDCA

In WDCA A turf, Williamstown Colts have their work cut out in a clash of undefeated sides after Bellbridge amassed 302. The Colts will not die wondering, having been the heaviest- scoring side in the competition in the opening two rounds. Williamstown Congs (3-26) took the gloss off their fine early work by losing three wickets before stumps against Caroline Springs (191). Fourth-change bowler Robert Normington initially put the Congs in a strong position with five wickets. Gellibrand (171) is locked in an interesting tussle with Grand United (1-27).
