Community volunteers from the Friends of Lower Kororoit Creek (FOLKC) have allegedly been targeted by a opportunistic thief.
FOLKC president Geoffrey Mitchelmore said volunteers were removing weeds and completing maintenance work at G.J. Hosken Reserve in Altona North on Thursday, January 26 when they discovered about $400 worth of equipment had been taken from the back of a FOLKC vehicle.
“To steal from a group of local community volunteers is so disappointing as they give so much of their time providing a valuable green space to improve the health, liveability and wellbeing of our residents, as well as biodiversity and the ecosystem for the Kororoit Creek environment,” he said.
“It doesn’t make sense considering what was stolen were brush cutter spares, including cutting heads and blades, none of which can be of any use to others as they are for specific equipment and not transferable to other devices.”
