Bowls

Yarraville Footscray had a big win against Altona in the Bowls Victoria weekend pennant premier division on Saturday. The two local rivals played off, but the match would be a one sided one, with Yarraville Footscray winning 111 (18)-67 (0). Nelson Ball’s rink won 40-12, Brett Mahoney’s rink won 24-15, Brandon Anderson’s rink won 22-21 and Brendan Umbers rink won 25-19. Yarraville Footscray now sits in sixth, 23 points outside of the top four. Altona is another spot further back.

A-League

It was raining goals on Saturday for Western United in the A-League competitions. In the women’s match with Canberra, United scored five first half goals to set the match up. They would eventually win 5-0. In the men’s match with Macarthur, United had to settle for a 2-2 draw. United played with an extra man for most of the second half, and after hitting the lead in the 60th minute, they trailed with about 10 minutes to go. A goal from Nicholas Milanovic in the 89th minute levelled the scores and gave United a point.

VTCA

The Druids are on top after day one of their clash with St Albans in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association senior division. The Saints were bowled out for 146 with Jarrod Parsons taking 3-28. The Druids got through 12 overs unscathed at the end of the day and will resume at 0-16. Yarraville Club was bowled out for 176 against Aberfeldie. Aberfeldie will resume at 0-5.

VSDCA

Williamstown fell just short of a grand final in the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association Craig Shield under-15 competition. The Seagulls made it through to the semi finals where they faced Balwyn. It was a tough day with the bat for the Seagulls, bowled out for just 50. Balwyn reached the target three wickets down to seal a spot in the grand final.
