Operation targets unlicensed and disqualified drivers

Victoria Police detected 12 traffic offences over the Australia Day long weekend across the Hobsons Bay police service area.

As part of Operation Amity, police were out in force from Wednesday, January 25 to Sunday, January 29.

As part of Hobsons Bay’s operations, police detected two disqualified drivers, two unlicensed drivers, two speeding offences and disobeying signs/signals, one mobile phone offence, one unregistered vehicle and two impoundments.

Victoria Police road policing Acting Assistant Commissioner Justin Goldsmith said it was “frustrating” to see a number of disqualified and unlicensed drivers on the roads.

“Whilst it’s great that ANPR technology is helping police to detect and remove more unauthorised drivers than ever before,” he said.

“Unauthorised drivers have no right to be on the road, yet they continue to flout the rules, putting their lives and others at risk.

“Rest assured, our enhanced capability means that we are stopping these drivers in their tracks and removing them from our roads, making it safer for all road users.”

In Maribyrnong, police detected no traffic offences as part of the operation.

Across the state, police caught 225 drink drivers and 198 drug drivers during the operation, with 117,703 alcohol and drug tests conducted across the state.
