The Newport Rams Baseball Club celebrated its past, present and future at its annual Heritage Day recently.
Hundreds of present and past club members, sponsors and spectators attended the event at the K.C. White Reserve on Sunday, February 12 ahead of defeating St Kilda 18 to two.
The Rams also wore specially designed replica uniforms to pay homage to the original uniforms of the first club teams in 1928.
The club also celebrated the member David Gregurke’s 24-year connection with the club by inducting him as a life member.
Club president Paul Walshe said it was a momentous occasion for the club on a number of fronts.
“It was a very proud moment to be able to speak on behalf of the club in welcoming Melissa Horne MP and Tony Briffa as we turned on our new scoreboard for the first time,” he said.
“We are very grateful for Melissa and Tony’s ongoing support.
“It was also a very special day as we presented a Life Member’s medal to David Gregurke in honour of his many years of service on and off the field to our amazing club.”
Newport Baseball Club was established in 1928 and is a Division one club rich in its history of players, characters and results achieved over many years, as well as many individual player achievements at all age groups in various representative sides.
