FAT fashion ready to hit the runway

The Australian fashion world will be rocked to the core when F.A.T. (Fabulous and Trendy) Runway hits the catwalk at Footscray Community Arts Centre as part of the Paypal

Melbourne Fashion Festival on March 4.

This runway will be one for the history books. It is the first ever dedicated plus-size runway at the Festival.

At least 60% of Australia’s femme population wear a size 16 and above. It’s time for the fashion industry to become more inclusive and Paypal Melbourne Fashion Festival is making

space. The first weekend of the Festival will feature a number of plus size events including the Faternise Podcast and A Plus Market. Melbourne will be the place to be for all the curvy

folks!

“The F.A.T. Runway is going to be a colourful celebration of body positivity and self-acceptance, which hopes to leave the audience feeling inspired to have more fun with their

clothing. Fashion shouldn’t be about conformity and uniformity, but about inclusiveness, self-expression and individuality. It should be an art form, not a slavish form of cloning”

says designer and F.A.T. creator Lucy Wilkins. “Having the opportunity to wear clothes that really fit you can be such a transformative experience for those who have spent their lives

trying to squeeze into a size too small because that is the largest size available.”

This runway will showcase size inclusive, Melbourne based, emerging fashion brands including: Lucy Wilkins Fashion, SÜK Workwear, We Are Golden Hour, Ebony Bolts,

Warmcore Clothing and Ownsit! The diverse models will range from size 16-24 including Indigenous, new Australians, trans, non-binary and neurodiverse models.

The show will focus on showcasing clothing that is fun and youthful. Mainstream plus size fashion is so often made in dark colours and aimed at older women. Many plus size young

people are forced to wear age-inappropriate clothing which can contribute to body image issues. The F.A.T Runway will connect young fat folks with fashion, in a way never done

before. To nurture people to express themselves and feel good in their body.

Tickets are available on the Paypal Melbourne Fashion Festival website. Tickets are limited, so book early. The venue is fully wheelchair accessible.
