From immersive cinematic experiences to seeing high voltage electricity sparking before your very eyes, there are a variety of activities available for young and curious minds at Spotswood’s Scienceworks museum these school holidays.

The Melbourne Planetarium is hosting world-class movies specifically created for the immersive ‘fulldome’ screen as part of Fulldome Flicks, with screenings on Saturdays from 4.30pm.

Each screening will also include the popular What’s in the Sky Tonight presentation, a presenter-led tour through the night sky.

Scienceworks’ Amphitheatre will also be hosting a brand-new Lightning Room show The Glow Show uncovering the science of luminosity, concluding with the sparking of a giant Tesla coil.

Due to sparks and noise, the Lightning Room is not recommended for young children and babies.

Scienceworks is also running the ‘What’s with the Weather?’ interactive experience detailing the science of how weather works.

The science of light will also be on show as part of the ongoing Illuminate exhibition, while the history of Melbourne’s sewage system will also be detailed as part of the FlushBack augmented reality experience until Sunday, April 23.

Spotswood Pumping Station tours are also being held daily from 10am to 4.30pm.

Children can also learn about the journey the food we eat takes into the sewage system as part of the ‘From Sandwich to Sewage’ experience.
