Braybrook Sporting Club is hosting a full day of matches for the PLAY4BCNA round on Saturday, May 13 , in partnership with the Breast Cancer Network Australia.

This round is especially significant for the Braybrook Sporting Club, who have been personally touched by breast cancer.

Cheryl John was a club member heavily involved at the club for over 25 years, participating in crucial game day duties.

Cheryl was a beloved member of the Braybrook community who tragically lost her battle with breast cancer in 2018, leaving behind her loving husband and two children.

Her husband Mal spoke about her memory, recalling fond memories and small details.

“She loved the club so she would help out in any way she could and be there for the club,” he said.

The Braybrook home ground will host four matches on the day , as well a raffle made possible through community donations , plus an assortment of food and beverages.

In honour of Cheryl, the club changed its ‘Best Club Person Award’ to rename it after Cheryl, becoming the ‘Cheryl John Best Club Person’ award, which secretary of the Braybrook Sporting Club, Katarina won last year.

“She just wanted to help, she just wanted to be here for the club,” she said.

The club also renamed one of its netball teams after the John family, to honour the ongoing support from the family who all continue to participate in game day duties.

“As much as we can honour her around the club , we do,” she said.

“It’s a huge day for us, everything we do has Cheryl’s name on it and we want to raise as much money as we can for the Breast Cancer Network.”
