Pilgrim Church has started a new community garden in Yarraville to encourage food sustainability in their community.

On Sunday, May 21, locals are invited to 75a Bayview Road Yarraville for a community open day at 11am.

Organiser Jani White said the opening day is to let the community know that the gardens are there to be looked after.

“There is a lot of scope for both volunteering and having a role in shaping the next stages of the project,” she said.

Ms White said anyone who enjoys growing food, wants to know about growing food or even wants to harvest something for dinner is welcome.

“All levels of experience will be valued as we co create a valuable contribution to food sustainability, the congregation at Pilgrim are keen to establish strong community collaboration for its ongoing development,” she said.

“We are keen to be a part of the answer for food sustainability in a manner that gathers the good will of the local community to express their desire to give or their need to receive.”
