After a sell out show in March, Footscray Laughs returns on Friday, June 16, with a new, all-star line-up at Footscray Community Arts.

Programmer Urvi Majumdar said she has worked really hard to make the line-up as inclusive and diverse as possible.

“I wanted to include as many artists of colour, LGBTQI+, and those with disabilities,” she said.

Maddy Weeks, a Melbourne-based writer, comedian and producer is on the Footscray Laughs line-up.

Weeks said they feel very grateful for people like Urvi who are making the effort to make lineups so diverse.

“It is so good to see someone actively working to change how things are in the industry, it’s hard but it’s important,” Weeks said.

“These shows are always so much fun, you get to see so many different perspectives from different people.”

Weeks said thanks to Majumdar they no longer feel like the odd one out, just like some of the audience.

“Some people don’t get to see themselves represented as much when you go to comedy shows, it then becomes not as relatable,” Weeks said.

“When you have lineups like this, there is someone for everyone and it becomes a much better show for everyone included , audience and cast.”

Weeks said the 10-minute set they will be performing has been worked on beforehand, making preparation easy.

“I always leave room for improvising and see what mood I am in on the day, trying out new things makes it very exciting to go off what the audience gives back.”

In addition to Maddy,Lizzy Hoo, Aurelia St Clair, Rowan Thambar , Woah Alyssa! and more, be there to provide the laughs.
