On Thursday, June 8, 90 people from Maribyrnong and Hobsons Bay gathered at The Substation in Newport, for the 2023 Community Leadership Summit.
Hot House Community projects, Network West and the West Gate Neighbourhood Fund hosted the summit to celebrate community members who have succeeded in their leadership journeys.
Hot House Community Projects director Helen Rodd, said it was a brilliant night.
“Everyone really listened and supported each other and especially the speakers of the night,” she said.
Ms Rodd said the highlight of the night was hearing the six community leaders step up and give their presentations.
“Some of them haven’t spoken in a public setting before, we coached them on public speaking before hand,” she said.
“…They spoke about their projects and the impacts those projects have had on the community, one of which was the proposed plan for the Footscray hospital site.”
Also in attendance were a few councillors from Hobsons Bay and Maribyrnong as well as MP Katie Hall , MP Melissa Horne and MP Daniel Mulino.
Ms Rodd said the night had a very positive energy and everyone left feeling strongly about community spirit.
“We all have a role to play to make the community, from young people to community leaders, neighbours, organisations, councils, state governments, everyone has a role to play in creating strong and thriving communities.”
