Hobsons Bay police teamed up with the Sheriff’s Office and the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator to conduct a compliance operation in Williamstown North.
The operation took place along Williamstown Road and Kororoit Creek Road on Tuesday, June 20, from 10am-6pm.
Police said the destination was chosen based on police intelligence, the operation aimed to enforce road safety by utilising a highly visible, multi-agency approach to reinforce positive driving behaviours, vehicle safety and lessen the escalating road trauma figures.
Over 300 vehicles were checked as part of the operation, with police issuing eight fines for unregistered vehicles, with one driver to receive a summons to attend court for unlicensed driving.
The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator inspected 18 vehicles, issuing three defect notices, two infringement notices, three warnings and one formal direction.
The Sheriff’s Office dealt with 27 people, executing 438 warrants totalling more than $190,000, in addition to three cars who had their wheels clamped at the scene.
Further joint operations are currently being planned for the Hobsons Bay area and other parts of the west in the future.
The locations will not be disclosed prior to avoid detracting from its purpose, these types of operations are regularly run across Hobsons Bay so travellers should be aware.
