As part of Hobsons Bay council’s school holiday program they hosted a tree planting day.

On Tuesday, July 4, more than 160 plants were planted during the three-hour event hosted at Newport Lakes.

The program, organised by Hobsons Bay City Council Youth Services, was developed after feedback from a recent youth engagement survey, which showed young people in the area were concerned about the environment and climate change.

The day gave young people a chance to be active in addressing their concerns by planting native fauna in the area while having fun, getting their hands dirty and building social connections.

A council spokesperson said the event was also scheduled during NAIDOC Week to show respect and connection to the land on which we live, work and play.
