Citizen of the year nominations open

Nominations are now open for the 2024 Hobsons Bay Citizen of the Year and Young Citizen of the Year awards.

Council said the awards shine a light on people in the community who are striving to make a difference and driving positive change.

This could be through community service, sport, arts and culture, environment, health and wellbeing, business and economic development, and other areas that contribute to improving Hobsons Bay.

The awards acknowledge the unsung heroes of the community who through their contributions make our state a better place.

Nominees must be Australian citizens who live, work, volunteer or study in Hobsons Bay.

While nominees for the Young Citizen award must be 26 years or younger on 26 January 2024.

Council said if you know someone who deserves to be recognised, nominate them for Citizen of the Year or Young Citizen of the Year online.

Alternatively you pick up a hard-copy nomination form at the Hobsons Bay Civic Centre or your local library.

You can only nominate someone else. Self-nominations will not be accepted.

Nominations close on Sunday, November 12.

Hobsons Bay mayor Tony Briffa said, “One of my highlights as mayor is being able to witness and celebrate the outstanding work of individuals in our community.

“As well as showcasing the incredible achievements and altruism of individuals, the awards are also a platform for the winners to raise awareness of their work in the community.”

Naserah Khan, known as Nasz, was awarded 2023 Citizen of the Year for her years of dedication, passion and commitment working behind the scenes to improve Seabrook.

“It’s been such a wonderful opportunity; I’ve enjoyed it very much and loved working with council staff,” she said.

“I’ve been able to directly contribute to events including the Dawn service, coffee at Homestead and outdoor movies. It’s been a busy yet very fulfilling year.”
