Star Weekly is looking back at the best stories of last year and this is one of them.
Footscray High School’s (FHS) “coolest students“ were involved in the painting of a new mural at the school, said student Harrison.
FHS partnered with Maribyrnong council and local artist, Heesco, to spray paint a giant mural at the school.
Nine students from year 7 were involved in the mural, all of which described the experience as very exciting.
Anthony, Ava , Asha, Harrison, Sienna, Isla, Lachlan, Shaziya and Ravi all expressed their interest to participate in the project.
“We didn’t realise we were going to spray paint, it was very exciting when we found out,” Ava said.
“The best part was spray painting because I had never done that before, it was a new and fun experience,” Isla said.
The students participated for two periods out of the school day, each painting the letters of a few words on the mural.
The mural is located in the back of the school on a wall near the science lab, designed around the school’s four pillars, Unity, Creativity, Respect and Endeavour.
“We got to choose our own section, we painted down most of the bottom where we could reach,” Anthony said.
“I was worried my part wasn’t going to be seen in the bottom left hand corner, but I think the bricks I painted were one of my favourite parts,” Asha said.
“It’s very cool that we can have an impact on the school for years to come”, Harrison said.
