As we embark on a new year, I wanted to provide an update on progress with some of the projects being rolled out across my ward to enhance the wellbeing of residents in the suburb of Maribyrnong.
Firstly, the Rosamond Road upgrade works are set to kick off next month, promising improved traffic flow and accessibility for residents. Additional traffic calming measures are also being considered as part of the delivery of the re-sheeting work. Council will also be reviewing and updating the Integrated Transport Strategy to support future engagement with the community on a practical north-south cycling corridor.
This work follows on from the successful resurfacing of Somerville Road and recognises calls from our community in our annual survey to do more to improve and restore the condition of the existing road network.
The heritage Thomson Water Gardens at Footscray Park will also be reopening to the community this year after being fenced off since 2021. We are currently seeking approval from Heritage Victoria before undertaking remedial works.
In line with our focus on wellbeing, Council has now adopted the Maribyrnong Aquatic Strategy, confirming our approach to ensuring access to quality aquatic facilities into the future. This includes endorsement of the Maribyrnong Aquatic (MAC) Strategy which will see a stronger focus on therapy and wellness, alongside education and recreation delivered by this Council-owned facility.
We will also be continuing the conversation around delivery of community facilities and services in the suburb of Maribyrnong this year. This includes considering the opportunity to consolidate existing assets and develop multi-use hubs, incorporating existing and additional services, as the most effective use of funding to deliver best outcomes for our community now and into the future.

In closing, a reminder too of the Midsumma Pride March on Sunday 4 February. The march follows the traditional pride route down Fitzroy Street in St Kilda. Council will again be taking part. I look forward to marching in solidarity with you all.
