WRFL: Medallist Adrian Gervasi at the top of his game hangs up boots

Parkside veteran Adrian Gervasi clocked off from his glorious football career with a pair of important medallions dangling around his neck.

Gervasi claimed the Rex Swann Medal for best-afield in the Western Region Football League division 2 grand final before collecting his premiership medal.

The 30-year-old then confirmed his retirement.

He said he could think of no better way to finish his playing career.

The win also went some way to soothing the heartache of two losing grand finals in which he participated.

“After the last two years, this is just unbelievable,” Gervasi said. “I didn’t think it could be this good. It’s the best feeling in the world, can’t get any better.

“I’m retired, that’s it, I’m hanging my boots up – I’ve got nothing left to give.”

Gervasi spent the past three years at Parkside after a long career in the Essendon District Football League.

He played at Doutta Stars, Maribyrnong Park and Avondale Heights but it seems it is his time as a Parksider he will cherish the most.

“I had a few mates come to Parkside and it’s the best decision I’ve made to come here,” he said.

Gervasi has predominantly worked as a defender this season, but in the grand final found himself having an impact further up the ground.

Coach Nathan Juegan was thrilled with his versatility in the biggest game of the year.

“I’ve been using him down back all year and last year I used him up forward,” he said.

“He was awesome.”

Gervasi played down his impact.

“It’s a team effort and that’s what it’s been all year,” he said. “I did my part for the team and that’s it.”
