Man invites girl into van

Police are appealing for help over the attempted abduction of a girl in Yarraville. The girl, 11, was walking in Francis Street about 3.25pm on September 8 when a white commercial van pulled up beside her. She refused the driver’s request to get inside and ran home to alert her parents after he persisted. The driver was described as being of Indian appearance and aged about 30. He had distinctive scarring on his inner right forearm and was wearing an orange turban, black
T-shirt and blue jeans. Anyone with information should phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Voice for migrants

A new African-Australian businesses and traders association was launched in Footscray on Monday. The Australian-African Small Business Association (AASBA) was formed with the help of community leader Berhan Ahmed, who said the development of small businesses was vital to migrant communities.

Parking fees cut
