A new online tool has been launched to help Victorians prepare for future journeys using the tunnels and road connections resulting from the West Gate Tunnel Project that is nearing completion.
The ‘Explore your journey’ tool allows motorists to plan and see journeys that will be available to them once the project is complete.
The tool allows users to explore travel options via interactive maps, detailed route explainer videos along with a freight feature to be added soon to assist truck drivers and logistics companies.
Executive project director Peter Lellyett said, “We are making it easier for Victorians to plan ahead as we near the opening of the West Gate Tunnel.
“The ‘Explore your journey’ tool puts information at people’s fingertips, helping them to understand how the project will allow them to make faster, safer trips across Melbourne.”
The roadshow will enable people to drive the West Gate Tunnel through a simulator before it opens, letting people experience what the tunnel and connections will be like for themselves.
Delivery group executive Nicole Stoddart said “We want to ensure drivers are ready and prepared to use the road safely and confidently from day one.”
The West Gate Tunnel will provide an alternative to the West Gate Bridge, easing congestion, taking over 9000 trucks of local roads daily and improving the safety and travel time for all road users, according to the state government.
