Writers Out West is hosting a professional development summit for local authors on Saturday September 6, International Read a Book Day.
Created by local writers and supported by Hobsons Bay council, the event will cover publishing pathways, author branding, and marketing strategies that work.
The visionary behind the summit is local award-winning author Louise Karch, whose personal loss compelled her to bring writers together.
“My father died with his book still inside him, and that loss taught me something crucial: writers need community to bring their stories to life. Every published book has an acknowledgements page thanking the people who made it possible. We’re building that support network right here in the west,” Karch said.
The response has been overwhelming. All 80 free tickets sold out within weeks, with a waiting list of 20 writers hoping for spots.
Event director and international multi-published author Alison Stuart has secured top-tier speakers including award-winning author Ebony McKenna and USA Today bestselling author Sasha Cottman.
“This will be an uplifting day for our writing community,” Stuart said.
Following the summit, Writers Out West plan to hold regular events for both established and emerging writers in Hobsons Bay.
The summit runs from 9am-4pm at the Altona Civic Centre. Ticket holders must arrive by 8:30am so waiting list writers can be offered available seats.
All tickets are sold out, but interested Hobsons Bay writers can join the waiting list at https://events.humanitix.com/writers-success-summit-g5cbxn49
