VFL: Williamstown Seagulls extend 30 contracts for 2015

Williamstown has extended the contracts of 30 players, who helped the club make it to the second-last week of the VFL season and claim Foxtel Cup and AFL development league premierships in their 150th anniversary season.

The Seagulls went on a recruiting spree last off-season, necessitated by the split in the alignment with the AFL club Western Bulldogs.

This off-season will be a quieter one for the Seagulls, who raced to lock up a number of marquee players and exciting up-and-coming youngsters.

The big names to commit for 2015 include captain Ben Jolley, Adam Marcon, Ed Carr, Scott Clouston, Brad Mangan, Kane Lambert, Willie Wheeler and Nick Meese.

The rising stars signed up include Dylan Conway, Jake Owen, Ben Bese, Michael Gibbons, Jack Dorgan and Sam Critchley.

“We certainly feel we’re ahead of the game and are delighted to have so many players commit to the club in 2015,” Seagulls football manager Chris Dixon said.

“It’s a great show of faith in the direction we are heading as we aim to improve our on field performance in 2015.

“Last year was obviously a pretty big recruiting drive for us bringing in 34 new players.

“We will certainly be a lot quieter this season, which comes from the confidence we have in our existing list.

“We are still very much a young and developing list and we have great faith in our club’s ability to continue to nurture and develop this talent.

“We will still be looking to add some quality to our squad with another batch of quality TAC Cup players and also some top end talent that are of good character and fit our needs.”
