Barbershop art

For the next three months a Footscray barbershop will be turned into a makeshift gallery showcasing the work of local artists.

This Friday, Toni the Barber on Barkly Street will begin its run playing host to the Footscray Photo and Art Exhibition, where six local photographers, graphic designers and artists will have their work displayed until January.

Appropriately, one of the photographers whose images will be exhibited at Toni the Barber, is Toni himself.

Along with cutting hair, Toni Gedjo is a street photographer and it was while giving another Footscray photographer, Jim Kellam, his regular trim, that the pair came up with the idea for an exhibition.

Joining Gedjo and Kellam in the inaugural exhibition are Sally Walshe, aka Lady Mohawk, Dragan Gavrovski, Dennis Murphy and Luke Ryan.

The opening night event is from 6pm-9pm on 7 November.
