Celebrate Maddern Square upgrade

Maribyrnong council will celebrate the completion of the Maddern Square upgrade with a community event on 28 November.

Council said the square, situated just off the Nicholson Street Mall, has received a bold upgrade featuring vibrant artwork and a new basketball half-court as part of its commitment to improving public spaces and community outcomes in Footscray

Bold and joyful designs from artist Olana Janfa have been installed as the base of the half-court, as well as featuring in light boxes on surrounding buildings, adding light and colour to the space, council said.

Works also included adding new seating, lighting, and skate elements to make the space more inviting and increase foot traffic in the area.

The improved street skating facilities were included in the works in response to community demand.

The community celebration, titled Game on, Footscray, will be held from 3-pm and will feature basketball, food and music.

Council said attendees can listen to DJ Konker, hit the court or skate zone, grab a pizza from the Slice Sisters and take in the great new artwork.
