Fire destroys West Footscray home

Police are investigating the cause of a fire which gutted a West Footscray home on Sunday night.

Emergency services were called to the blaze at a single-story unit on Alma Street about 9.15pm on 31 January.

The fire had fully engulfed the property and was threatening neighbouring houses by the time firefighters arrived, with crews wearing breathing apparatus working to stop the blaze spreading further.

The property was vacant at the time of the blaze and no one was injured.

The incident was brought under control by 9.50pm and the scene then handed over to police who are treating the fire as suspicious.

Police are urging any witnesses or anyone with vision or information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report anonymously at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
