TAC Cup

A best-on-ground performance from Corey Ellis helped the Western Jets to a 53-point win against the Sandringham Dragons in the TAC Cup on Saturday. Ellis showed why he will be sought after by a number of AFL clubs in this year’s draft, racking up a lot of ball around the ground and kicking a goal in his side’s 14.14 (98) to 6.9 (45) win. He was joined among the Jets’ best players by Mark Orr and Brayden Monk. The Jets are fifth on the TAC Cup ladder and trail fourth-placed North Ballarat Rebels by just one game.

Women’s soccer

Yarraville Glory is on track for promotion in the Football Federation Victoria women’s State League 4 west. Glory scored three goals in each half to thrash Sunbury United 6-0 at McIvor Reserve and maintain second position on the ladder. Emily Guardiani scored two goals for Glory, while Bianca Li-Rosi, Jaime Floros, Maretta Paila and Jovana Vukovic drilled one each. In women’s State League 3, Maribyrnong Swifts lost 6-0 to Lara and remain stuck in the bottom three.

VAFA

Williamstown CYMS gained an important percentage boost in a 106-point thrashing of Melbourne High School Old Boys in Victorian Amateur Football Association division 1. With North Old Boys St Patrick’s breathing down their neck for second spot and an all-important double chance, Williamstown maintained a one-game buffer and a better percentage of
6 per cent. Jack Gray was best on ground with four goals for CYs, while Nic Holdsworth, Callum Richards, Robert Chan and Nick Ebinger were also influential. CYs face Yarra Valley away on Saturday.

Baseball

Melbourne Ballpark in Altona will host the Australian Baseball League all-star game on December 17. The game will showcase the best players from the national league in a representative game between Team Australia and Team World. Meanwhile, the Williamstown Wolves’ line-up is starting to take shape ahead of their entry to the Baseball Victoria’s top flight, announcing the signings of Andrew Russell, Nathan Gell, Dave Nolten and James Early last week. The Wolves will feature in conference 2, alongside Newport, Essendon, Geelong, Preston and Sandringham.
