Hockey: Altona A’s face fight for fourth position

Goal differential stands between Altona and a top-four position in the Hockey Victoria men’s premier league.

The A’s lost a close contest 3-2 to MCC at Grant Reserve on Saturday to be dislodged from that prized fourth spot, despite the best efforts of 250-gamer Tyson Priddle.

The race promises to go down to the wire with three teams – Doncaster (34 points, +10 goal difference), Altona (34, +4) and Waverley (33, +13) – barely separable with three matches remaining.

Footscray, already out of the finals race, went down 4-3 to Hawthorn at McIvor Reserve.

In women’s premier league, Altona was comprehensively beaten by MCC, 6-3, in a dead-rubber match for the A’s.
