People who attended Altona Primary School before 1950 are being invited to share their stories and experiences at an afternoon tea on Wednesday.
Next year marks the school’s 100th anniversary and a week-long centenary celebration is planned for October 19 to 24 in 2015.
Images, memorabilia and stories are being collected from people whose families have been part of the school for generations. Information will be compiled and presented in a DVD and a written history for students to use during the centennial year.
Three current teachers have parents and children who attended the school.
Music teacher Julie Enright has the oldest connection. Her grandparents, parents, children and siblings – including Harvard professor Trevor Finlay – all went to the school. The current principal, Kevin Enright, is her brother-in-law.
The afternoon tea will be on August 27 from 1.30-3pm at 109 Blyth Street, Altona.
Students, teachers or parents from the 1930s, ’40s and ’50s are being invited to share their stories.
Anyone wanting to contribute to the school’s centenary history should email altonaprimarycentenary@altonaps.vic.edu.au or call 9398 2925.
