Monkey magic

Take the kids down to the Newport Substation on Wednesday, July 9, and let them monkey around with music, magic and more. The Mudcakes will host a 10am concert and 11.30am kazoo workshop. Kids who dress up as a monkey will take home a free DVD. Cost: Kids $15 (concert) or $25 (concert and workshop); adults free.

Garden swap meet

Don’t miss the Yarraville Community Garden’s Urban Harvest swap meet in front of Clare Court Children’s Service from 10-11am this Saturday. Take along something garden-related – like excess garden produce, recipes and homemade preserves – to contribute then take a share of what you need. Group members will be at the swap meet to discuss the new community garden, which will open soon.

Plan a park

The Southampton Park Residents Group wants to hear from residents with ideas for a new park at the site of Maribyrnong council’s former Southampton depot.

The resident-led initiative will collect ideas to present to the council. Join a community planning session at Southampton/Swan streets any time between 11am and 1pm this Saturday and enjoy a free cupcake.
