Maidstone: Craigieburn man caught drink-driving twice in two hours

A man has been caught driving while drunk twice in two hours in Maidstone.

Police first stopped the 36-year-old man on Ballarat Road, Maidstone, about 1am on Tuesday, and breath-tested him.

He returned a positive result and was asked to come back to the police station for a blood test, but refused, so officers took his keys, police said.

A short while later, the man and a friend walked into Footscray police station, where the friend requested the keys and told officers he would drive the drunk man home.

But just under two hours later, different officers nabbed the same man driving his Mazda sedan along Ballarat Road.

He was breath-tested again, and returned a positive result. His keys were again confiscated.

The offender has since lost his licence for two years, and is expected to be charged on summons with failing to accompany police.
