Big V men: Altona Gators finals hopes hit by split

Altona Gators no longer hold their destiny in their own hands.

The Gators suffered a split of results on a double-header last weekend in Big V basketball men’s division 1 to remain a game and percentage out of the Terrill Group top four.

Their finals chances sustained a near- knockout blow when they were shocked 65-59 by the Melbourne University Black Angels at the Altona Sports Centre on Saturday night.

But the sixth-placed Gators still have a minor pulse after rolling lowly Craigieburn 79-71 on the road on Sunday and having some favourable results, with Mildura (fourth) and Sunbury (fifth) both losing.
