Tottenham railway station gets much-needed revamp

Tottenham railway station has been enhanced by an additional 100 car spaces, improved lighting, CCTV cameras and a new forecourt on Sunshine Road.

The upgrade, part of the Regional Rail Link project and unveiled last week, also includes more than 650 metres of noise barriers along Sunshine Road, drainage works and a mural by artist Sam Songailo on the Ashley Street bridge.

Regional Rail Link Authority acting chief executive officer Allen Garner said the improvements would benefit commuters and the local community.

“The entrance and forecourt on Sunshine Road have been rebuilt, complete with new landscaping, making the station safer and better looking,” Mr Garner said.

“We improved the pedestrian thoroughfare within the Ashley Street underpass and provided an additional 100 spaces by upgrading the informal car park on Rupert Street and reconfiguring the Sunshine Road car park.

“We’ve also enhanced safety with improved lighting and CCTV coverage at the railway station entrances and in the car parks.”

Mr Garner said Regional Rail Link was improving local bicycle infrastructure by adding new paths alongside the rail corridor and providing a dedicated bike route from the Western Ring Road through Sunshine to Tottenham.

“The bicycle paths, funded by the project and to be delivered by Brimbank council, will benefit communities for years to come,” he said.
