Climate change under the microscope

What can we do about climate change … and why should we care?

These and many more such questions go under the microscope of science at an Environment Victoria Westside forum next week at Footscray Primary School.

Local co-ordinator Lance Lessels said the Environment Victoria-affiliated Westside group wants politicians to get serious about climate change.

“EV Westside is campaigning across the western suburbs for greater response to climate change and collecting petitions to be presented to federal and state parliaments,” he said.

Keynote speaker David Spratt, co-author of Climate Code Red: The Case for Emergency Action, will look at the gap between myth and reality in climate policy-making.

Mr Spratt is a regular expert speaker on climate change science and policy.

“Australia needs to contribute strong support for addressing climate change,” Mr Lessels said.

“We need to show our politicians that Australians are very concerned and want the Australian delegation [to the UN climate change conference in December] to reach meaningful resolutions to tackle climate change.”

The forum will be held in the Edwardian Hall at Footscray Primary School, 7-8pm, on August 13.
