Braybrook: Multimillion-dollar revitalisation taking shape

A multimillion-dollar revitalisation of Braybrook is on track with a number of key projects under way.

As Maribyrnong council’s two-year Revitalising Braybrook Action Plan nears its halfway mark, a council officers’ report shows 80 per cent of 86 proposed ‘actions’ have begun, with 17 per cent completed.

Centrepiece of the plan, the $12.5 million Braybrook Community Hub, is on track for completion early next year.

Braybrook is one of the state’s most disadvantaged areas, a situation the council has vowed to tackle. The action plan aims to improve education, transport, employment and training as well as safety, housing and infrastructure.

The officers’ report found the council had made good progress over the past year in implementing the key activities.

One of the first projects up and running is the Braybrook Community Garden.

The council has also distributed $40,000 to community projects in Braybrook, including bike maintenance and space activation projects.

The council and community health provider Cohealth have each put $20,000 toward health service delivery at Dinjerra Primary School.

The Department of Justice is spending $25,000 on a ‘Beautifying Braybrook’ graffiti prevention project, funding an artist to work with young people, while Women’s Health West plans to relocate to the former Howard Kingham Lodge after signing a 21-year lease with the council.

A roundtable will be held in September to ensure stakeholders remain committed to the plan.
