Footscray railway station would be directly linked with Melbourne airport under a plan announced by the state government.
The as-yet-uncosted Melbourne Airport Rail Link will be factored into the next state budget.
While a timeline is also unclear, a new service would run along dedicated tracks from the airport to Albion where it would join the existing rail network and run through Sunshine and Footscray to Southern Cross.
