green light for bradmill plan

A $20 million development has been approved for the former Bradmill site in Yarraville. Maribyrnong council approved the Francis Street project which includes a new library, medical centre, restaurant, two supermarkets and 30 shops. Developer De Group also plans to build a service station and 22 social housing dwellings.

park upgrades in the pipeline

More than $1.5 million will be spent by Maribyrnong council on improving Pipemakers Park in Maribyrnong. The council is seeking to take over the park as well as nearby Burndap Park and a section of Footscray Park presently managed by Parks Victoria.

smouldering ‘meal’ ignites fear

Fire crews were called to Webb Dock at the Port of Melbourne about 7am on Thursday after fears a shipment of fish meal would explode. Workers reported seeing a smouldering container housing 1000, 20-kilogram bags of fish meal and a fertiliser. An MFB spokeswoman said hazardous material and decontamination crews were deployed to the dock, as were a fire boat and crews. She said the situation was quickly brought under control.
