The homicide squad is investigating after the body of a newborn baby was found on a street in Melbourne’s north-west.
Police were called to a property on Ruth Street in St Albans about 3pm on Thursday.
Police arrived to find the baby’s body near a footpath. The circumstances surrounding the death are yet to be determined.
A police spokeswoman said a family member reported the death.
An 18-year-old St Albans woman is assisting police with inquiries.
Investigators are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed unusual activity in the Ruth Street area over the past week to come forward.
An autopsy was expected to be conducted overnight.
