VSDCA: A-game not enough for Altona against Werribee

Altona bowed out of the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association east-west group finals with its pride intact after rain disrupted its chances of upsetting Werribee in the quarter-final at Chirnside Park.

The A’s posted 5-163 declared off 73.3 overs, thanks largely to batting maestro Aaron Maynard (92 not out) and all-rounder Lee Elmore (44). Maynard finished the season with 810 runs.

“He’s had an amazing year and he came out today and really turned it on,” Werribee captain Shaun Dean said. “I had a one-day field set for him and he was still popping twos and fours.”

With Werribee needing a draw to advance, it was always going to be a tough ask for the A’s to take the 10 wickets in 76 overs. Andrew McCammond took 4-37 off 21 overs, but the Tigers comfortably negotiated a draw.

Werribee, Noble Park, Bayswater and Oakleigh will now fight it out in the final four.
