FILM FESTIVAL: Setting Sun starts Friday in Yarraville

The west’s very own short film festival lights up the silver screen in Yarraville this weekend.

The inaugural Setting Sun Short Film Festival starts at the Sun Theatre with an opening-night gala from 7pm, Friday.

The Golden Sunset Programme, featuring all of the finalist films, will be followed by a ’70s-themed party.

Festival director Anna Bourozikas says Maribyrnong council will present a Dusky Sun Programme in the pop-up park from 8.30pm on Saturday, featuring a free outdoor screening of the “best of the rest” festival films.

“These are the films that didn’t make the official program, but we want everyone’s films to have a chance to be screened in front of an audience,” she said.

The festival attracted 42 film entries, which Bourozikas said reflected the need for a western suburbs filmmakers’ festival.

The festival will close with an awards ceremony from 7pm on Sunday when the festival’s winners will be revealed.
