Footscray has prevailed over Williamstown in a clash of the VFL heavyweights.

The Bulldogs, desperate to keep their spot in the top four on their trip to Burbank Oval on Sunday, came from a goal down at half-time to win a low-scoring game by 11 points after a five goals-to-two second half.

Tom Boyd, the AFL’s No.1 draft pick two years ago, had a major presence in the game with three goals.

Nathan Hrovat, another first-round draft pick, was named the Bulldogs’ best.

Darcy MacPherson, the son of long-time AFL Bulldog Stephen, kicked a goal in his outing as the Bulldogs’ 23rd man. The Western Bulldogs father-son prospect plays with the Northern Knights in the TAC Cup.

The loss has cost Williamstown its spot at the top of the VFL ladder.

The Seagulls fell below the Box Hill Hawks by a game and percentage.

Ben Jolley, the Seagulls’ best on the day, continues to surpass some of the club greats in terms of VFL games played.

He played his 209th game to go past former captain Troy West.
