Williamstown Athletics Club has brought a swag of medals home from the Victorian junior athletics championships: three gold, two silver and five bronze. Megan Whatman and Celeste Mucci were the club’s gold medal winners with Whatman taking out the under-14 80m hurdles in 13.57 seconds and Mucci victorious in the under-17 high jump, clearing 1.73 metres, and long jump (5.81 metres). The athletes now begin preparing for the Australian titles in Sydney next month.

Football

The Western Bulldogs open their 2015 NAB Challenge campaign against Richmond at the Whitten Oval on Saturday. The Bulldogs will unveil a host of new recruits, including big- name signing Tom Boyd, the No.1 draft pick who came across in a trade with the GWS Giants for Ryan Griffen. First bounce of the game is at 4.40pm.

Netball

City West Falcons have put on a show for the country folk. The VNL championship division ladder leaders routed Ballarat Sovereigns 67-29 at the Wendouree Sports and Events Centre on Saturday. Goal shooter Kath Knott was prolific for the Falcons with 42 goals from 54 attempts, while goal attack Steph Tyrell hit 20 from 29. After a busy five games in 14 days, the Falcons will be looking forward to a lighter one-game week against Geelong Cougars in the 9.40 game tonight at the State Netball and Hockey Centre.
