Big Bay Swim tragedy as man in 50s dies

A man has died in the Big Bay Swim from Port Melbourne to Williamstown.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesman said lifesavers pulled the man, in his 50s, from the water during the Melbourne’s Big Bay Swim event.

He said when paramedics arrived he was in cardiac arrest.

“They tried for almost an hour to revive him,” the spokesman said.

“Despite their best efforts, unfortunately, he died at the scene.”
