Lights, camera … win for Footscray City College

A documentary exploring the lives of Sea Shepherd volunteers
fighting to stop whaling in the Southern Ocean has won a film festival
award.

Footscray City College year 9 students Josephina, Matilda, Urji,
Fatuma and Hannah collected the ‘best journalism’ award in
the 2013 Bayside Film Festival youth documentary project.

Their film, Murder on the High Sea, includes interviews with volunteers from the Sea Shepherd, now docked at Williamstown.

The project funds professional filmmakers to work with year 9 students.

The winning Footscray City College film was chosen from about 50 projects entered by 10 schools across Melbourne.

A special ‘mini-Oscars’ night at the Palace in Brighton was held to honour the award-winning students.
